The child with a neck swelling
Kayleigh is a 13-year-old girl who has recently noticed a neck swelling. Please examine her.
Next, you examine her eyes.
Inspect the eyes from above forehead (for exopthalmos)
Check for any lid retraction or lid lag on downward gaze - if so, say you want to check for corneal ulcers
PEARL (can get Horner's syndrome from thyroid enlargment)
External opthalmoplegia (inferior oblique is the first affected)
Conjunctival injection and oedema - chemosis (“gelatinous in appearance”)
Check visual fields (pituitary tumour can cause hypothyroidism)
